Australian Nats 2014: Day 2

Day 2 Report sent by Bob Griffiths , Images sent by Ian Johnson, more at IACA's FB.

Glenn Ashby leads Australian International A Class Catamaran National Titles.

"After an hiatus of two years due his Team New Zealand America's Cup commitments, Glenn Ashby has returned to sail in A Class Catamarans. After six races, he leads the Australian National Championship, by one point, from Steve Brewin, his perennial sparing partner.

Australian Nats 2014: Day 1

Results from Day 1. Usual suspects leading: Ashby & Brewin with a Bullet each, holding 1st and 2nd overall. 3rd for Jack Benson. Excellent news having Dario Valenza's Paradox racing in the front fleet with Thomas Stuchbery besides some some trap/capsize issues, a good preparation for Takapuna. Down South Updates: Australian Nats 2014 & Argentina fleet setting up first boats

Summer in Down Under... and the Australians are holding their Nats previous NZ Worlds in February.
We contacted Ian Johnson for news about the Aussie Nats. (Image Dario Valenza/Carbonic Boats.)
"We are currently holding our Nats. 39 Entries.
Day 1 and sitting here waiting for some wind. Don’t look like starting before 2pm.

Yesterday we had an invitation race in 14-19 knots. Half the fleet competed and won by Glenn Ashby from Jack Benson with Dave Brewer 3rd after leading for most of the race. Some very fast downwind sailing on trapeze from the front boats"

2013, Year in Review

The 2013 Season will officaly end fter NZ Worlds in February 2014.
During this period we did not made too much emphasis on the new developments in the Class official website, but we duly informed and clarified the rules addressing possible changes that aimed for As to use similar L foils as those used in the latest ACup. We also provided different views on the matter from experienced sailors.

With the Worlds coming and the season ending, it is the right time to address current Flying times in the sailing World, specially in the A-Class environment.

Worlds @Takapuna, New Zealand: Barker & Ashby in?

The Takapuna Worlds official entry list still don´t show them as registered. But the DNA guys at their blog, are saying they will participate along Ray Davies & Peter Burling on J-Boarded boats from the Dutch factory.
The Js have shown great potential with Mischa going Airborne, but as the builder even recognize, they are still missing a win to show Js are the next step, as Winglets are now standard in the fleet.

Australian Paradox A-Cat Update

Lots of hard work and development for Dario Valenza and his Australian Paradox A-Cat. After some modifications the boat is getting the desired pace and reaching good speed.
I Hope they can get one to race at next NZ Worlds at Takapuna, they intend to participate as Darío stated in their website.

Dario's comments: "One of our Paradox V2 A Cat prototypes (the orange boat AKA 'Glenis') has taken part in several regattas in Victoria, skippered by young Tom Stuchbery.
Feedback is extremely encouraging.
Overall we are now certain that the concept works.

Musto 2014 Victorian State Championship for Adam Beattie

From the Australian Assoc: "Congratulations to Adam Beattie for taking out his first Victorian Championship, beating the current title holder, Steve Brayshaw.

Racing was reduced to 7 heats of 2 laps each in order to get the series in due to adverse weather conditions.

Saturday saw a 12 knot breeze gradually die out to 2 knots during the 4th race. Brayshaw won the first 3 races, whilst Beattie took the final.

Sunday saw no racing as the wind was greater than 22 knots all day.

Comments on Foiling by Current World Champ Mischa Heemskerk

We received this technical report by Mischa Heemskerk published in the Dutch A-Class Assoc FB https://www.facebook.com/dutchaclass from Kees Krijger, and it was decided worth to published in IACA's official website.
As current World Champ, and foiling specialist on the latest C-Class developments, Mischa's comments can contribute to learn some additional details on the 8.2 Rule.

IACA President on Official Class Submissions

Letter from Andrew Landenberger, IACA's President, to clarify and inform about the formal procedures to submit rule changes, and which are the current official ones currently analyzed by the Class World Council.
-------------
Dear Members,

Over the past months we have seen several submissions put forward by
National Associations for possible rule changes. Some of these submissions
have created a lot of interest in the class, both for and against.
