Stevie Brewin retains the crown

The 2017 Australian A Class Championship is now complete, with Steven Brewin winning the event. Darren Bundock was second, with Brad Collette third.

One race was started today in somewhat light and fickle conditions, which soon became extremely light and fickle. The race was stopped after about 10 minutes with the breeze doing several pirouettes around the compass spectrum. No further racing could be started.

The overall results as of the end of Day 4 therefore stand. See the full table here.

Nine of the twelve proposed races were held, with the consistent moderate to fresh winds of the first two days relenting to variable winds which did not gain much intensity or stability until late in the day.

The next event on the Australian A Class Catamaran calendar is the Victorian State Championship in March.  A reasonably sizeable Aussie contingent is planned to attend the Sopot Worlds.    Reported by Bob Griffits.

An interesting developement introduced here for the first time is the 'Super Grand Master' catagory with 3 sailors eligable.  This is an a acknowledgement to the fact that the 'A' cat is still being sailed by older sailors.  The new catagory is for sailors of 65 years and older.  It is a great encouragement for sailors to be able to compete with their peers whatever their ages, and this can only increase the enjoyment within the class.
