The Aussies are coming out of hibernation

Robert Griffits reports - September traditionally means the commencement of sailing season "Down Under". The sun is slowly making its way higher into the sky at each noon sighting. The late Winter/ earlySpring winds are  however still being their usual contrary selves, either being a faint zephyr, or blowing the dogs off the chains.

The Australian container has returned from Medemblik, and another container of Ad3 boats from Poland will follow shortly.

 The New South Wales State Championships have been moved forward from the more traditional end of season March date, and this year will be sailed on the last weekend of October, at the Kurnell Catamaran Club.

Another A Cat regatta will be held the following weekend at the South Lake Macquarie Amateur Sailing club, as part of a mixed regatta for one person boats. It will be interesting to see how the latest foiling A Cats lay up against the foiling Moths.

 The Australian National Championships will be held during the first week in January, at the McCrae Yacht Club , on Port Phillip Bay, south of Melbourne.

 Interest in the class remains high. The evolution and innovation continues, with further developments in rudder design, and main foils moving progressively closer to the main beam. The search for ease and stability when foiling continues.
