Italy: Trofeo Accademia Navale for Mirco Mazzini

Livorno, May 3rd, 2015 - Mirco Mazzini wins the 32nd edition of the Trofeo Accademia Navale e città di Livorno in the A Class Catamarans.

Mirco Mazzini, from Riccione 151 sailing club, won the first place in second round of A Cat Italia 2015 calendar. This date also marks the return of A Class Catamarans at the prestigious prize Trofeo Accademia Navale e città di Livorno. The second and third places were conquered by Giuseppe Colombo and Luca Micolitti. Actually it’s no surprise to see Mirco on the top position: on the last year he got the Italy’s Champion title in the Tornado Class.

Even if the weather conditions made it hard because of a really light wind, 5 races were carried off – only one less than expected. The situation was critical especially on Saturday, when the teams had to remain offshore for more than 5 hours, despite the fact that only 2 races had been completed (the first race had been even reduced at the third leg of the course).

After the first three sailors, Michele del Corso finished fourth, followed by Paolo Sorcinelli (who won the fourth race with a 2001 Flyer), Alessandro Frassi, Pasquale Delogu, Daniele Menegatti, Michele Pratelli and Alberto Farnesi for the first 10 positions.

On the web site http://www.trofeoaccademianavale.eu/ can be found the complete classification and some photos from the regatta, which was managed by the Centro Vela Sunset, in Calambrone, actually a centre of excellence for catamarans for the Tyrrhenian coast.
The three winning sailors used all well-tested materials and standard boards (i.e. with constant bending radius). Mirco used a 2013 platform from Carbon Lab, a 2014 Challenger sail perfectly tunes to a Bimare mast. Giuseppe raced with a Nikita platform, Saarberg mast and Landenbergher One Design sail. Micolitti had an almost standard Zero MY 2014 except for a Membrane Landenbergher One Design sail.

The next appointment will be on Garda Lake, from 30th May to 2nd June, for the Italian A Class Championship organized by the Circolo Vela Arco.
