Cesenatico, April 6th, 2015
Cesenatico - Italy: Stefano Casadei wins the 41st edition of Vele di Pasqua in A Class category and the Città di Cesenatico Trophy.

The 41st edition of Vele di Pasqua didn’t turn as well as expected. In these days, in fact, the horrible weather conditions made it impossible to sail. Two races took place only Saturday, even though the sky was completely cloudy and partly it rained.

After that the light wind completely disappeared, forcing the Race Committee (headed by Angelo Insabato) to close the second race with a shortened course.

51 teams signed up to the regatta and 31 were A Class Catamarans (Tykas, Tornados and 19 feet group the other classes admitted), but they were disappointed in such an early conclusion, which led to the prizegiving on Sunday morning.
Whereas the weather conditions were expected to get worse (North-east wind over 30 knots and rough sea up to Monday morning), the port authorities decided to close the gates of the port from 9 p.m. of Saturday until Monday afternoon. Therefore, it would have been impossible to sail even just one race.

This unfortunate edition of Vele di Pasqua ended up with Stefano Casadei, from Adriatico Wind Club, in the first place, winner of both races. In the second place, Matthias Dietz from Porsche Seglergemeinshaft e.V., who won already the 2012 edition of Vele di Pasqua and who has been in the top ten of this regatta for many years anyway. In the third place Stefano Sirri from Congrega Velisti, who trained with Stefano Casadei and others team mates in Porto Corsini during the winter.
Teo di Battista finished fourth, and the French Andrè Casanova finished fifth. After them Daniele Menegatti, Riccardo Mellina, Reiner Bohrer, Daniel Pascucci and Roberto Casadei in the tenth first positions. The complete scores can be found on the Congrega Velisti’s website: http://www.congregavelisti.it . The Città di Cesenatico Trophy was eventually won by Stefano Casadei, thanks to both his final score and the high participation of A Class catamarans

During the awards ceremony Massimo Nicolini, the president of Congrega Velisti, dedicated a speech to Guido Pirrini, A Cat Italy veteran and member of Congrega Velisti, who prematurely passed away only a week ago.
Stefano Casadei used his tested and perfectly tuned usual material: a 2012 DNA platform with standard boards (i.e. with constant bending radius), Fiberfoam mast and a 2013 Ashby Sail Stratis sail. Matthias used the last generation of the eXploder platform equipped with “W” boards, Fiberfoam mast and Landenberger One Design sail. Also Stefano Sirri had good material, very similar to Casadei’s one, only he had an Ashby sail from last season.

The next appointment will be the Trofeo Accademia Navale National Regatta (on the 2nd and 3rd of May) in Calambrone - Tuscany, hosted by Circolo Vela Sunset. A lot of teams are expected to take part, especially because the World Championship will take place in September in Punta Ala, not far away from Calambrone. --
