Italy: Bracciano National Regatta for Daniele Menegatti

Report sent by Pier Faccin - Bracciano, May 7th 2014
Bracciano (RM): Daniele Menegatti won the Italian National Regatta organized by Associazione Velica Bracciano.

The total absence of crews from the northern regions of Italy, as well as from Tuscany and Sicily caused a low amount of participants at this event. Guilty were the forecast of awful weather. Some crews from Cesenatico and Porto Corsini decided to join anyway, so the event finally had count totally 14 sailors.

Daniele Menegatti from Circolo Nautico Volano gained the first place with two victories over the only two regattas of Saturday. The second place was won by Marco Gaeti, president of Cat A Italy, followed by Stefano Sirri from Congrega Velisti Cesenatico, Mirco Mazzini (new Tornado Class national champion) from Riccione 151 Sailing Club and Mauro Pagani from Adriatico Wind Club.

On Saturday the races started after a very long waiting for the wind. Around 17 p.m. a light breeze from NE saved the day, allowing to complete two regattas just before the sunset. On Sunday no races. For security reasons it wasn’t allowed to launch the boats from the Sailing Club ramp because of the big waves and strong wind.

Daniele Menegatti sailed with his new Exploder equipped with a Fiberfoam mast; the same mast was used by Marco Gaeti, which actually sailed with a Sheurer G6, while Stefano Sirri chose mast and platform from DNA. As usual, a large variety of combinations of platforms and masts on the podium with the odd exception of the sail. All podium’s crews choose a Brewin sail.

The next meeting of the Cat A Italy National Regatta Calendar is on the 17th and 18th of May in Calambrone, near Livorno, for the traditional event organized by Centro Vela Sunset. More info can be found on: http://classeaitalia.it/
