Catsailing Legend passed away: Hobie Alter ,1933-2014

Hobie Alter made Catsailing and Racing more popular when he launched the Hobie 14 in the late 60s', followed by the H16 and others models, including the single handed Hobie 17, with a similar A-cat setup.
Many of us started sailing in his designs, still great feeder classes for high performance cats like the A-Class.

He was a truly innovator in every field, he started his Surfboard shop in the 50's and introduced one of the key developments in the sport, the core foam light boards. Later he introduced he fin box and many other devels in sailing too, as the use of rotating mast for his Hobiecats.

The A Class has its own development path and history, but Alter was key to put more people into our sport and that was his greatest achievement.
