Steve Brewin wins Europeans 2013

As reported Brewin secured the title yesterday winning the 8th race, with a second discard in place with a ninth there were no chance for Lanbenberger or Calavia to reach him.

Andrew Landenberger won the final race today and defended his 2nd position. Manuel Calavia could finally discard his dns but a 10th in the final race put him in a really good 3rd overall considering he raced 6 "Finals" after scoring a bfd and a dns in the first 3 races, obtaining the European Crown as Brewin & Landenberger are from Australia.

Steve Brewin was crowned World Champ in 2011 at Aarhus, Denmark, last year he ended 3rd behind Mischa Heemskerk & Landy. Later Brewin had a serious back injury , but of course as shown at Barcelona he is fully recovered and enjoying the crown of the major A-class event for 2013, as this season Worlds will be held at New Zealand in early 2014.

Heemskerk started the event full speed with some good breeze using his new flying technique, but later he had some stitches in his hand and wind dropped to fully floating mode too, reducing his chances.
Calavia has the same foil conf and performed well in every condition.

Stephen Brayshaw had also managed to deliver at final stage of the event to discard two high scores 37 & 39 , to end 4th overall.
In 5th place Jacek Noetzel was surely a highlight and surprise of the event, Poland has a good A-Cat fleet and a pair of builders, so this is only good news for Jacek and his fleet. Also A-Cat 'rookie' Sandro Caviezel from Switzerland with a great 11th overall.

Beyond some latest equipment development the Box Rule continues to work perfectly in the Overall range of a 5 day event. 4 different designs and sails in the top five it is a good indication.

Steve Brewin sailed a 2001 design by Nils Bunkenburg, the Nikita and his own sails and is sponsored by Magic Marine.

From Spain, Calavia 3rd as mentioned & a great performance by Gustavo Doreste 6th overall scoring 9 results under 12th. Having two local sailors doing so well will boost even more the local Class.
