Swiss sailor  Sasha Wallmer wins the IX Trofeo Giorgio Zuccoli, organized by the Associazione Nautica Sebina Sailing Club

In a weekend plagued by the weather variability, unusual for the official start of the summer season, Sasha Wallmer of Segelclub Männedorf won the IX Trofeo Giorgio Zuccoli by a large margin. This National Regatta organized by Associazione Nautica Sebina is dedicated to the his great Champion. (Ed: Sailor & Sailmaker Georgio Zuccoli, founder of Ullman Sails GZ and former Olympian)

5 of 6 scheduled races were completed during the weekend. At the start of the event, an incipient thunderstorm caused numerous defections from the first race with only 9 crews classified. Despite the bad weather, all the remaining races were always held with light wind (the maximum intensity in the first test on Sunday with 12 knots) characterized by strong variability in intensity and direction. These difficult conditions however did not prevent the best ones to prevail over the rest of the 25 crews in the regatta.

The excellent performance of Sasha, except from an OCS in the third race, provide him a bullet in all other races, thanks to his sailing abilities and his Scheurer G7, the only boat that allows in the flat water a stable foiling already from only 8 knots. In more than one occasion this resulted in a great advantage in downwind in the specific conditions encountered on Lake Iseo.
After Sasha,  the ANS teammates Paolo Penco and Eugenio Calabria. Just off the podium, another specialist in alpine lakes, Giuseppe Colombo, from Unione Velica Maccagno, followed by the new Italian A Class Champion Stefano Cavallari, and, then, his brother Sandro, both from dell’Associazione Vela Lago di Ledro.

In seventh and eighth place Swisses Dominik Peikert and Sergio Vela, then Luca Micolitti of ANS and only in tenth place, the only crew accustomed to salt water: Daniele Menegatti from Circolo Nautico Volano. Paola Longhi, from Unione Velica Maccagno, was the only woman in the race. She finished 21st but was among the nine teams who finished the first race.

The race results can be found on the website of ANS (http://www.ansebina.it/). As always noticeable the traditional great hospitality of the ANS which was really appreciated by all attendance.
The next National A Class Regatta is scheduled on July 4th and 5th, at the Adriatico Wind Club in Porto Corsini, Adriatic Sea.
