It is with great regret that the organisers of the 2021 'A' Cat European Championships at Puerto Sherry, Spain, have had to cancel the event. International travel and National COVID restrictions have worked against the organisers, and it was just not possible to run a well attended Championships as a result. Hopefully there will be an event there in the future. Rafael Martin-Prat De Abreu, Puerto Sherry Orgainister writes -
Dear Sailors. These are difficult times, due to some restrictions to travel to Spain and constant changes that have generated a climate of uncertainty that does not guarantee a minimum of parcipitation and a fair regatta in this European Championships, from the Organisation of the A-Class Catamaran European Championship, we regret to communicate the Cancellation of this competition. Sincerely, it has been a very difficult decision to make and finally all the members of the organization have agreed that it is the best option.
There are many coutries that include Spain in their list of destinations to which travel is not recomended, this coupkled with health protocols that require negative tests and even to keep quarentine once you return to the counry of origin, have contributed to the low particitation and the guaranteed absence of great sailors from different countries.
We apologize for any inconvenience this cancellation may have caused. We hope, in the not too distant future, we will be able to hold an International Class A Regatta that guarantees a high and diverse participation in the Bay Of Cadiz.
From Puerto Sherry, desination selected by many internationalteams, we will cotinue our efforts to keep our facilities and services available for everyone who wants to visit.
I wish you fair winds.
