Training camp in Denmark

Weather wasn't on our side for the first Catamaran training camp in Denmark this year.
Temperatures around 0C and wind forecast of 24 to 28 knots saturday and 28 to 34 sunday, kept sailors on shore, and training was converted to theoretical introduction to A-Class sailing for the new members of the class during saturday, before we got into our cars and drove home in a blizzard.

What happened to global warming??? :-)

Technical Committee Rule 3 Clarification by IACAs President

Dear Members,

In the past months there have been several questions from members about the correct interpretation of Rule 3. With the introduction of winglets on rudders and the development of curved foils many questions opened up about how boats could be constructed within the rules. While the intention of the Rule 3 was always clear to most of us it was also clear that if this rule was challenged, there were many possibilities to achieve exactly what it was meant to prevent.

Australian A-Class: Vic States for Steve Brayshaw

No images or report available, but a good fleet of 32 As participated this weekend in the Victoria States championships.

Steve will be switching boats this year to the brand new and debuting D3 A-Cat hopefully at Barcelona Europeans.

I think also is Jason Waterhouse debut in the A Class, he sailed Dario Valenza's Paradox. Darío told me they are doing a methodical approach and step by step tuning of the platform.

'Infanta Cristina' Trophy at Mar Menor for Manuel Calavia

TROFEO RANKING NACIONAL CLASE A CAR “INFANTA CRISTINA” MAR MENOR - 20 Boats present for the first European event of the year. Manuel Calavia dominated the event 5 bullets.
Report by Manuel Calavia:

"Last weekend we held the first regatta of the Spanish A Class Circuit in La Manga del Mar Menor, the place where the Europeans 2007 were held.
My main goal with this regatta wat to test the new DNA dagger boards against other boats with normal curved boards. Some Dutch guys came to this event.

Raphael Censier: Teenager building the Class Future

Raphael wanted to have his own Cat and he chose the A-Cat for his home built. If a Class can encourage young kids to build their own boats, it is on the right path.
Raphael built his custom Carbon A-Cat and now he is trying to make it Fly within the rules.
We made an interview for him to tell about his building experience and his future projects.
He was inspired by others and now he will be an inspiration for many to join the class with their own home builts.

CatamaranParts Vision at the RYA London Dinghy Show

Several A-Cat builders supporting their local classes in Boat Shows around the World. A truly great sinergy between the Associations and A-Cat brands. This Time the Vision by / Saarberg at the London Dinghy Show.
Info sent by Gordon Upton from the British A-Class. More images at
Top Class sailors Chris Field and Mischa Heemskerk were there too promoting the Class.

Winglets: Begginings & Tech Data

The Class has adopted the Winglets as a defacto production feature. I contacted 'Winglet Guru' Andrew Landenberger to tell us how he ended using them & Gonzalo Redondo from D3 Applied Technologies for some tech data.
Latest boats offering factory Winglets are: Andy Scheurer G6, DNA, new Addiction A, new Exploder A, Bimare Zero, new D3 and I'm sure I'm missing some.

Ronstan US Midwinters: Perfect '9' for Ben Moon

Impressive Midwinters win for Ben with 9 bullets out of nine races. The Class in the US continues to gather big numbers as shown at Isla Morada Worlds. Ben will be for sure a menace at the 2013 Europeans. No pics from the event available. Only report by Bob Hodges at Sailing Anarchy - Note that Bob says "Scheurer G6" but he is confused I guess, Ben will race the 'D3' at Barcelona. As informed weeks ago Andy Scheurer will continue to produce the Scheurer G6 (Landy's boat) and his son Dominik is building the 'D3'. Photo Kristofer West from Aarhus 2011.
