IACA Measurers Guidelines Updated

Dear Members, This Guide has been prepared by Graeme Harbour as Chairman of the Technical Committee with the assistance of Thomas Paasch from the Committee. The Guide is specifically aimed at measurers to assists them in consistently carrying out A class Measurement, however since it is the responsibility of individual sailors that their boat and equipment is class legal I recommend that all A class sailors read and understand this document along with the class rules.

Regatta Tracking

The committee has been looking at different tracking solutions, to see if a suitable system is available on the marked, and what the costs would be.

We've been looking at systems that we could run our selfs, or systems that a provider would run for us. We've been looking at 8 systems and narrowed it down to one system for the "Full Service" approach and one for the "Do It Yourself" approach.

A full service solution would cost approx. 7200 euros per event + travel, accomodations and expences. No investment and minimal work for the race management.

Invitation to Austrian/German/Swiss-Championship

The boatpark will be at your disposal from the 11th of May on. Yachtclub Rheindelta would like to invite all A-Cat sailors. For NOR and inscription see under the "Regatta" menu.

Training camp in Denmark

Weather wasn't on our side for the first Catamaran training camp in Denmark this year.
Temperatures around 0C and wind forecast of 24 to 28 knots saturday and 28 to 34 sunday, kept sailors on shore, and training was converted to theoretical introduction to A-Class sailing for the new members of the class during saturday, before we got into our cars and drove home in a blizzard.

What happened to global warming??? :-)

Technical Committee Rule 3 Clarification by IACAs President

Dear Members,

In the past months there have been several questions from members about the correct interpretation of Rule 3. With the introduction of winglets on rudders and the development of curved foils many questions opened up about how boats could be constructed within the rules. While the intention of the Rule 3 was always clear to most of us it was also clear that if this rule was challenged, there were many possibilities to achieve exactly what it was meant to prevent.

Australian A-Class: Vic States for Steve Brayshaw

No images or report available, but a good fleet of 32 As participated this weekend in the Victoria States championships.

Steve will be switching boats this year to the brand new and debuting D3 A-Cat hopefully at Barcelona Europeans.

I think also is Jason Waterhouse debut in the A Class, he sailed Dario Valenza's Paradox. Darío told me they are doing a methodical approach and step by step tuning of the platform.

'Infanta Cristina' Trophy at Mar Menor for Manuel Calavia

TROFEO RANKING NACIONAL CLASE A CAR “INFANTA CRISTINA” MAR MENOR - 20 Boats present for the first European event of the year. Manuel Calavia dominated the event 5 bullets.
Report by Manuel Calavia:

"Last weekend we held the first regatta of the Spanish A Class Circuit in La Manga del Mar Menor, the place where the Europeans 2007 were held.
My main goal with this regatta wat to test the new DNA dagger boards against other boats with normal curved boards. Some Dutch guys came to this event.
